State Legislatures

California State Legislatures are protecting the old Californian values of being accepting and respectful of immigrants from multiple countries around the world. Unfortunately, new federal policies have enforced even stricter immigration policies which include the mass deportation of found illegal immigrants. Other federal policies threaten to defund sanctuary states who are not willing to comply with the new immigration laws. However, California legislatures are passing bills of their own. Some of these bills would in a sense make California a sanctuary state. Some of the bills include the prohibition of police officers from collecting personal information on an immigrant's status or from having to answer federal agents when they come knocking on the door. Other bills suggest using taxpayer money to pay for legal representation for immigrants. Many cities such as Oakland, San Jose, and San Francisco have declared themselves as sanctuary cities. California is standing strong and resisting Trump's immigration reforms.
